PARA HISTORY

In 1961 . . .
Porterville chartered a branch of the California Republican Assembly. They started with 40 in attendance and the special speaker of the evening was G.H.Mydland of Los Angeles, one of the founders of the (CRA) organization, and who held several high level state positions in the CRA. Also present was Mrs. Mamie Thomas, secretary of the CRA.

As the Porterville Recorder accounted, Mr. Mydland discussed, at some length the development and history of the California Republican Assembly, noting that Federal Judge Sherrill Halbert was a practicing attorney in Porterville when he was first elected as the CRA's first president in 1934.

Dr. Richard Spencer, who was the first CRA president in Porterville, said several "activities committees" have already been formed by the local group which hopes to step up Republican registrations and encourage qualified candidates to seek public office.

At that time (1961) members were kept informed with a local newsletter and their contact was with Dr. Spencer and Mrs. Rod Lalanne.

In 1999 . . .
Mr. A.L.Lucketta of Porterville was presented with the Man of the Year AWARD, (picture) by the California Republican Assembly, in Recognition for Outstanding service and contributions. His greatest accomplisments for the CRA State wide pertained to internet development and website creations for other CRA units, the Official CRA Site . . . www.ca-ra.org and the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) WebSite www.nf-ra.org. His secondary contributions came from his position as Senate District Director (14th). He plans to charter 10 new CRA units in Kings (0), Kern (2), Fresno (2) and Tulare County (3).

In August . . .
Of that same year the CRA was officially re-established in Porterville ! Porterville Area Republican Assembly, previously know as Porterville Republican Assembly (1961), was officially re-established on August 6th. 1999.

This is What I Believe With Mr. A.L.Lucketta at the helm and Dr. Richard Spencer as their 1st. Vice President, excitement and experience became it's initial investment. Like similar groups, PARA will work together with the County Republican Central Committee to focus on voter registration, recruting conservative candidates, hold public debates, forums, sponsor special events and winning elections. They will also work hand-in-glove with Tulare County Republican Assembly and the newly formed CRA unit, Greater Tulare Republican Assembly.

In 2000 . . .
Many new republicans joined PARA and had a chance to get involved with campaigning and local politics.

The details will be posted before the end of this year. Those involved in recording and writing include Melissa Tenhet, recording secretary, Ashley Bell, membership secretary, Dr. Richard Spencer, PARA 1st. vice president PARA 2nd. vice president Ben Meredith, and city councilman Bill Wilson.

In 2016 . . .
In November of 2016, Mr. Lucketta was elected for a 4th straight term as President of PARA. Additional accomplishments were achieved by PARA due to his leadership and training others to become leaders.
